Alexis George opened its flagship couture store in 1980.
Husband & wife team, George & Pat Georgiou began something, which has now become a South Australian icon label coveted by women of all ages.
The business has grown to include a highly talented team of 12, who create unique fashion forward garments with the Alexis George signature for clients around Australia.
All gowns are proudly still made on the premises at the Unley Road store.
Designing from the heart
“I just style fabrics and create garments I’d love to wear myself.” Pat Georgiou, designer. Pat was initially influenced by the full-skirts and form fitting dresses of the glamorous Italian movie stars in the 1950’s.
“Fabric suggests form and form suggests fabric.” Sheer, sensual and bold, the Alexis George woman personifies style and contemporary after hours chic.
Pat Georgiou is a self-taught designer and her first love is fabric. Her creative gift is based on an intuitive understanding of the qualities of fabric and its possibilities. In fact, Pat commences designing with the fabric in mind, not the sketch.
Pat’s designs are from the heart, and are timeless. She can cover the whole range of a woman’s emotions from the sweet innocence of a monastic existence, to naughty, sexy and provocative excitement, to a floaty fairytale ‘other world’ experience. Pat allows, through her designs, any woman to be what she wants to be. To this day, she particularly adores working with all types of silk and tulle.
Her favourite and most influential internationally acclaimed designers are Dolce & Gabbana, Azzadine Alaia, Rick Owens, Nicolas Ghesquiere & Haider Ackermann
