Theme weddings.. Yay or Nay?
This week we came across a hysterical gallery online that features rather unfortunate themed weddings.
As a bridal party member of a themed wedding, let me tell you, the only ones that actually enjoy the theme are:
1. the kids and 2. the happy couple
As a fully grown woman there isn’t much to be excited about putting on a hideous outfit in badly cut cheap fabric and being smothered in theatre make up only to be dragged around and forced to look happy in front of your peers (jaded much?)
The bride is generally oblivious to this and dosen’t see it as an issue, in fact, she thinks you all look awesome or in my case “hot”
Not something a 30 something feels like hearing when wearing stripper heels and hot pink party satin… anyway I digress.
There are a few problems related to the theme wedding.
The first is regret. Just because Twilight is huge at the moment doesn’t mean it will still be in 10 years time.
Regret is an inevitable consequence of life (so they say) so to minimise future cringe fests re thinking the theme of your wedding and how far you take it is a good idea.
The second is participation. How do you get your guests excited about a theme that is simply of no interest to them? Sure, everyone loved the movie Shrek, that dosent mean you need to have an ogre themed wedding with green body paint for guests. Subjecting your bridal party is one thing, forcing your theme upon your guests is another.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with incorporating ELEMENTS of a theme into your special day, its about finding a balance between full blown and subtle.
So, what do you think? Themed weddings… Yay or Nay? Have you been to one? Did you like it, hate it? We want to know!
